The Bit in the Middle 🌸
On building, growing, and staying with yourself - Edition #1
I have realised recently that whilst I love the start up era, my work tends to be focused on the “bit in the middle”
The part we can’t quite name, as we are up to our eyes in building and growing and often getting a little lost along the way.
Start up is exciting, it’s where alllll the ideas flow from. It’s full of possibility and expansion and soo much learning. And yet only 23% of businesses will move past the start up phase.
Not because they didn’t show tenacity, but because when they moved towards “the bit in the middle” the support they needed to help them wasn’t there.
If you take a look to funded programmes etc .. they are all focused on the start up era. If you take a look to memberships and the incredible courses out there, most (not all) are also focused on start up.
But what happens when you move past start up, when your skills need refining, your business model needs simplifying, your business of one suddenly needs to grow?
And what happens to you? To your nervous system which is desperately trying to keep you safe during a period of growth. How do you rebalance you?
If you have a business right now and you feel the edges of what you have built, you are very likely sitting “In the bit in the middle”
Often this is where everything looks amazing from the outside, sales are flowing in, revenue is reaching you, but something inside of you can sense the leaks, both energetically and financially.
Decisions carry more weight
Mistakes cost more energy
Visibility feels more personal
The business starts asking for things back
Many people try to grow their way out of the middle. Often what’s actually needed is clarity and simplification → fewer offers, clearer boundaries, less emotional labour.
The support that helped you start your business is rarely the support that helps you to stabilise. The ‘bit in the middle’ often requires different conversations, different tactics and a different kind of holding.
More than anything, this middle ground is so incredibly precious. It’s where the business that breathes with you lives and where you decide whether it’s something you want to keep living inside of.
And I think, just maybe I had to live the “bit in the middle” a few times before I realised that this is where I want to be 🩷
Much Love
